For the last year, Propeller has been working with Brixton Finishing School, an award-winning social mobility/employment project for young people, to help them correct the inequalities that permeate throughout our media and advertising industry.
There is still much work to be done – and this is where you can get involved to help eradicate the barriers that prevent those from diverse backgrounds joining our fantastic media landscape.
A recent Brixton Finishing School survey revealed that 31% of those currently studying/graduates about to enter the media industry felt that their race was the biggest barrier to entry.
This needs to change.
Brixton Finishing School is dedicated to increasing diversity in the industry by finding and developing untapped talent and to make roles feel accessible to anyone who has the talent and drive to succeed. It offers a 10-week course that transforms raw talent into entry-level candidates for a spectrum of ring-fenced roles at big-name sponsor companies across the digital, media and creative industries.
We invite you to take part in The 31 Challenge to raise money for BFS so it can continue its vital work in encouraging a more diverse industry.
The challenge: Enter an individual or team to complete 31km in 31 days – cycling, running, pogo-sticking, swimming – whatever you like! Track your team’s progress via the #31Challenge on social channels to see how you stack up.
How to get involved: Donate £100, £250 or £500 to Brixton Finishing School’s crowdfunding page with your team name and participants to sign yourselves up. Additional sponsorship for individuals is also encouraged.
